Echo Fellowships at Flinders Medical Centre
The Echocardiography Laboratory is fully digitilised, has state-of-the-art equipment and conducts over 15000 echocardiographic studies annually including pediatric and neonatal echo , complex congential heart disease and those with advanced heart failure .
The Cardiology Department consists of 18 Staff Specialists and caters for all cardiology subspecialities. All of our consultants have focused single subspeciality interests in addition to their general cardiology commitments. We have dedicated Imaging, Intervention, EP and Heart Failure units that are closely aligned under the departmental umbrella and we have a close collegiate relationship with our cardiac surgeons. Flinders Cardiac Services have always been at the forefront of cardiac innovation and research founded on our international reputation in Clinical Trials Research.

Echocardiography Fellowship Aims
The Flinders echo fellowship is an opportunity for cardiology trainees to develop their skills in all aspects of echocardiography. This includes advanced imaging techniques such as 3D and strain imaging as well as being directly involved in Interventional TOE for structural interventions including percutaneous valve implantation/repair to address mitral and aortic valve disease, left atrial appendage occluder implantation, septal closures and alcohol septal ablations.
There are daily transoesophageal and stress echo lists as well as an opportunity to read TTE with highly experienced and knowledgeable imaging consultants.

Throughout the program, fellows have the opportunity to be mentored by world-class physician-scientists and clinicians. Fellows can also choose to work with exceptional researchers in the Division of Cardiology.

Cardiac Imaging (Cardiac MRI, Echocardiography and Cardiac CT) / Clinical Cardiology
Joseph Selva-Nayagam is an internationally recognised authority in cardiac imaging. He holds the Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine at Flinders University and is a Senior Clinical Cardiologist at Flinders Medical Centre, where he is the Director of Non-Invasive Cardiac Imaging (Cardiac MRI, Cardiac CT). His clinical interests are in treating patients with Heart Failure, Cardiomyopathies, and Chest Pain.
He graduated with first-class Honours from the University of Adelaide in 1995, obtained his FRACP (Cardiology) in 2002 and his PhD from Oxford University (DPhil) in 2005. For his doctoral and post-doctoral work, he received the Wellcome Trust (UK) Cardiovascular Research Fellowship, UK Overseas Research Students Awards Scheme and the Intermediate Research Fellowship award from the British Heart Foundation. In addition during this time, he received several national and international awards, including a merit award from Oxford University, and the Samuel Levine Finalist Award of the American Heart Association.

The successful applicant would be involved in clinical echocardiography, participation and presentation in echo and MDT meetings, and research/audit activities. Flinders Echo Lab has a strong focus on education and research with a long publication track record.
