The echocardiography fellowship at Flinders has been one of the career defining moments in my training towards becoming an imaging cardiologist. On top of being involved in an impressive number of stress echocardiography and transoeseophageal studies during my 12-month stint, I also had the opportunity to be part of the structural team, performing peri-procedural transoeseophageal studies in the cath lab on a weekly basis. The experience gained has been invaluable, and definitely served as a solid foundation to build on when starting out as an imaging consultant. Flinders is a high-volume centre offering a very strong clinical fellowship with a structural flavour, whilst surprisingly still manages to maintain a genuinely enjoyable, welcoming and supportive working environment - a rare combination not easily found when looking for a fellowship experience.
